GET users/lookup returns a 404

If I try to use the users lookup, I sometimes get a 404 using the 1.1 API.

What are the exact cases that would return such result? (i.e., user removed by twitter for spamming?, users who deactivated their accounts, etc?)

The documentation mention that the user cannot be returned, but I need to know all the cases for such returned results (for my customers).

Just that the user doesn’t exist. It might be because they are deactivated. It might be that their account has been completely purged. It might be that the account never existed. If you’re looking up by screen name, it could be that the user has changed their screen name and there’s otherwise no account with that screen name.
