Error code 150 for Direct Message via our App

Hi Team,

Receiving below response with an error code, while replying to direct message of a Twitter user;
{“errors”:[{“code”:150,“message”:“You cannot send messages to users who are not following you.”}]}

The error occurs when we try to reply using application., but able to reply via Twitter page/Tweetdeck. Kindly let us know the reason for the same.

Which endpoint are you using when you experience this error?

Hi LeBraat, https://api.twitter.com/1.1/direct_messages/events/new.json - this is the endpoint we use to post DM replies.

Are you reaching out to the same user in both cases? via the Twitter and TweetDeck user interface and the direct_messages/events/new endpoint?

And is this user currently following the user that you are trying to send the Direct Message from?

Yes,I am responding to the same user, via our application with provided endpoint, as we received an error, replied via TweetDeck.
User is not following the user who have subscribed to our application.

Users have the choice to be able to accept direct messages from users that they don’t follow. I believe this is what you are running into.

I’m not sure why you would be able to send a message via the UI and not the API.
