OK, so the timeline looks great on my site http://adrianwarnock.com in the sidebar, but it hasnt got the most recent tweets (last one 20 hours ago!) I thought it was meant to be real-time in updating?

I don’t know how easy it will be, but I’m definitely keen to make the widget more actively responsive (and the orientation-change example is a good one.) We’ll look into it.

The horizontal scrolling issue on mobile Safari is known, and has been driving me slightly insane for a week. It might be a bug in the native iOS elastic scrolling (-webkit-overflow-scrolling: touch;), so we’ll be checking that, and looking to see if the behaviour is more reliable in iOS6. Thanks for the confirming report and test page.

No plans for a transparent/custom backgrounds at present, but I’m keen to collect colour examples of what people would like to show through; what are you hoping to use? We might be able to figure something out.

At present there are no events from the new widget, we’ve got a couple of things to fix up in the events core to make events propagate from inside the new rendering sandbox. Once we’ve done that you’ll be able to get Web Intent events from the Follow button and Tweet box just as you do with the existing Tweet button and Follow button standalone widgets.

What would you like to be able to do with hooks to the widget? The principal design restriction we impose on events is that we do not directly communicate any user identifiable information (e.g. if we fire a Tweet event, you can respond in your app, but not know who the user is who posted it.)

If there are things you’d like to do in an application the timeline interaction that doesn’t require/imply identifying the user, we’re all ears and will consider it for a future enhancement. Thanks!

Hi Vanessa. I just checked your page and whilst on the first load the widget didn’t appear, upon refreshing the page it did. We’ve had a handful of reports like this—we hope the unreliability is pretty isolated—and we’re working hard today trying to track it down. Hopefully we’ll have some news on this soon.

The name of our file is widgets.js, if you’re seeing a twitter.js that may be something else. The inline code you get from the widget settings creator (just as for the Tweet and Follow button creator) will already inject our widgets-js script asynchronously, and will not block page rendering should our CDN ever be unavailable.

Hi Adrian, the newer Tweets do appear after the widget polls for updates, so it looks like we’ve got a misconfigured cache somewhere in the chain. We’re looking into it, thanks for the report.

I see the widget.js generated by the inline JS that I embed (I didn’t mean to imply that was the file name). I don’t see an async attribute on the tag generated by the inline script I paste in, however. So if there is a network error my browser won’t even see widget.js file and its scripted asynchronous code processing. That means my browser will have to wait for a timeout, affecting page rendering. That’s why I was looking for the async in the . If I am missing something obvious (or less obvious) please tell me.

THANKS! Seems to be working better…but now I tried to make a function out of your code so I could put the box in the center using wordpress… this is what I got and I think I have done something wrong: can you help me fix it right? At the moment I just get the text link in the center of my blog. This is what I put in my custom functions:

We put out a handful of sites ever month, each one has a different look and feel. It’s not an issue to let the widget handle the functionality but there are times when a design may use have a unique color or subtle texture. If there was an option to use a transparent background or even specify the hex, it would make things easier to make it fit the design. Will these widgets work on WIX? I’ve connected my wix to http://www.emicampus.com and can’t get the widget to properly show up on the bottom left of the page. Only one line of text and a link to my twitter works.

I’ve been getting the following errors since launch.

I get a 404 on this in the console

and trying to follow the link gives the following error in chrome.

You attempted to reach cdn.syndication.twimg.com, but instead you actually reached a server identifying itself as si0.twimg.com. This may be caused by a misconfiguration on the server or by something more serious. An attacker on your network could be trying to get you to visit a fake (and potentially harmful) version of cdn.syndication.twimg.com.
