You can use the REST API and do pretty much what you want as long as you follow the display requirements. Embedded timelines work for some (if not most) use-cases.

Thank you for your constructive criticism, we appreciate feedback, even when it’s filled with four letter words (of course, it might make it seem a little less serious, but hey).
