Hi, I wanted to ask if the display requirements are to be adhered to in all circumstances?
I find it quite curious that the Twitter API has an academic-research-specific branch but does not seem to have considered how academic researchers are beholden to ethical guidelines where anonymity of participants is almost always a necessary component.
If the display requirements are non-negotiable, I would simply not quote tweets in the write up of my thesis, but does the requirement that Tweets not be altered in any way mean that I could not quote a small phrase within a Tweet either?
Many thanks!

Yeah - there was never really a good clear answer to this from twitter - but here are some past discussions on this:
Yeah, it’s a weird one. It’s hard to imagine how to approach qualitative analysis when you’ve got to pick between supplying a quote for context or protecting the anonymity of your participants. Fortunately, I find the ethical discussions very interesting so the thread was very helpful - thank you! Just hope Twitter has a think about it by the time I get round to writing up my findings
