I would have expected to receive an email notification warning me that the api would get a bc-breaking update, long before the old api would stop working. Instead, I found out when it stopped working.

Announcing it on blogs, twitter and forums is not enough. It’s not like we developera are necessarily subscribed to all the blogs and stuff related to every api we ever used.
The mere fact one has a developer account with an email account associated to it, should be enough to be sure that one would get notified when the deprecation of an api is planned.

You are correct, rate limits for API v1.1 are based solely on application keys, not by IP address.

You can have two different applications, each with their own consumer key, on the same IP address.

They DO have to be different applications, we specifically prohibit the same app from having multiple keys.

It would be really handy to know how each API endpoint changed. Is it just the rate limit? Or did the payload get some new information? Are there new parameters for the GET & POST? Are there any new endpoints? What endpoints have gone away?

A company who deals with the CMS for a website I manage is having problems displaying several “most recent Tweets” on a cycling basis (single Tweet on display at a time, rotating every few seconds and not requiring a page refresh) on our website front page. I’ve been told that this can’t be done any more. I have no idea what any of this stuff means so I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to whether or not the cycling thing can still be done? If it can, would you be able to point me in the right direction for how to do it please?

The dev site’s docs/open-source-examples Tweetr by Sandro - swfjunkie is being updated by me. Sandro seems to have disappeared.
It’s actionscript3/flash and contains both Tweet and oauth libraries. The SWC files are out of date and useless now, as is some of the source code.
It’s the source code I am updating - slowly. I used git to bring it down to my site, where I’m working on it as I get time. Nearly done. But, I’ll leave it as source, not swc. much much easier to work on.

For my app I still need to resolve the hurdle.

But, the rest of it seems to behave fine. If anyone out there is/was using it, I’m redoing my iPhone app - which up to the change from 1 to 1.1 worked fine. Could use some help if you are into as3/flash pro.

ONe of the first things is yo make sure your files all go to https, and also instead of /1/, then change to /1/1/ and also, those in the library that end in .xml, should end in .json

I hit mine after only doing a few small tasks, and was told I have to wait 850 seconds

The rate limits for followers/ids and friends/ids really are too low for processing larger Twitter accounts. With this rate limit, one can retrieve a maximum of 300,000 ids per hour, or 75,000 every 15 minutes .

Can anyone tell me why does the number of tweets returned by the API for a particular day change when searched on different days?
Please also let me know how does the API return the tweets? Does it take a random sample from master set of tweets and then search for the keyword or does it search for the keyword in the master set and return a sample of that? If possible please send links where I can get information related to my query

The Search API is focused on relevance – what it might consider relevant to a search query one day may be different the next. The Search API doesn’t index all tweets, and generally only can provide results about a week into the past.
