Changed an account name so I could use it for app, but it keeps saying the name is taken, even though it does not show up in a search

I am trying to automate a twitter feed from my website, so i changed the name of a personal account to free up the name for the app. When I search for the name, it says its invalid, yet when I try to create an app, it says the name is taken.
Please help!
