Can't figure out how to post a quoted tweet using the API

Hi all,
Sorry if this isn’t the right place for this, but the list of categories needs serious help; it’s not at all compatible with screen readers, at least not VoiceOver on Mac.

Anyway, I have what I hope is a simple question. I can’t figure out how to post quoted tweets using the API. I can post regular tweets, and I can retweet, but I can’t find anything at all about quoted tweets. I know the API has to allow it, because plenty of Twitter clients offer the feature. I can parse quoted tweets if they come along, I just can’t work out how to actually post my own. If anyone can shed light on this, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

Not sure exactly what is meant by “quoting”. Do you mean a tweet like this:

or

(go to both since the outline here doesn’t show it well)

For the first you’d just directly link the quoted tweet in the normal tweet like:

Love this!
https://twitter.com/Legend_Arts/status/641346639840456704

For the latter you’d just type out exactly what is there:

Ruh Roh... "@awwwwwwwwe: Scooby Doo in real life "

Thanks so much! The first one is, I believe, the one I’m after. I think Twitter now calls them commented retweets or something similar, but they are what happens that gives a tweet a value for quoted_status_id_str and other quoted fields. So, all I’d do is post a tweet ending in the URL https://www.twitter.com/name/status/id_str then. Thanks again, I’ll give this a try once I can re-install Xcode.
