Can you migrate old links to keep Tweet Button count accurate? Updating permalinks on a WordPress website

I am updating WordPress permalinks for a client and they would like to not lose their Twitter ReTweet count. Is there a way I can automagically keep the old recounts in place for the new URLs?

I’m also considering changing my urls from /%category%/%postname%/ to just having /%postname%/ but want to keep my Facebook and Twitter share counts, the best solution I have come across so far is this for twitter -

Anyone have any other ideas?

My old urls will 301 redirect to the new ones so it shouldn’t be that hard considering especially all the urls shared on twitter anyway are redirects like bit.ly?
