Can I use an HTML area tag with Web Intents Javascript Events?

I can create an anchor tag on my page that properly fires Twitter Web Intents events. However I have an HTML area tag on the same page with the same href attribute that does not fire the Web Intents events.

Is this something that is expected and if so is it going to change anytime soon?

Hi John,

At present, the intent handling script only triggers from tags, so tags won’t produce the expected affect. However, that’s an oversight on our part and I’ll look into adding support for triggering intents from them.

We put a handful of backlog bugfixes out last night, one of which was support for Web Intents on image maps. Enjoy!
