Can I just pass the location to the twitter streaming api?

#1

Hi there,

I noticed that we always need to pass the track keyword parameter to the api before anything gets returned. I was wondering if I can just pass the location to the api and have all the tweets around that location be returned?

I’m currently using the Phirehose library to interface with the API.

Do you know if the the Streaming API supports this or is there another way to get this information?

For example: I pass the API the coordinates for New York (42.3482° N, 75.1890° W) with the radius of 25km. The API will return all open tweets within the radius. The track keywords might not work for me because I’m interested in all tweets and might not know what I’m looking for yet.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
