Callback URL

Hello,

The day before Yesterday i registered an Application for the website of an costomer.
I filled in all the fields with a red star, and it was succesfully registered.
But when i tried to use it, with the linking code (to register users), it wasn’t able to connect to Twitter.
I checked the http code, and it returned 401, so the Authentication Keys where wrong.
I kept checking, changed everyting, but nothing seemed to work.

Today i was still trying to get it working, and decided to fill in the Callback URL at the API page, and then it finally worked.
But acctually it’s strange.
My first point is that the Callback URL isn’t really the same as Authentication Keys, so it was kind of strange code in this situation.
Second, why isn’t there a star at the Callback URL, when it is needed to get the API working.

Since it took me quiet some time to figure this out i hope you can improve this, hoping it won’t happen to others!

The callback URL is a required placeholder only if you’re performing web-based OAuth. If you’re performing xAuth or OOB-style OAuth, it is not required.

OOB means out-of-band OAuth. Instead of receiving an oauth_verifier when receiving a callback, the user is provided with a short “PIN code” that they’ll need to enter into a UI within your application. You then send that PIN code as the oauth_verifier when exchanging a request token for an access token. See [node:3398].

We have to fill up the URL that contains the application address in order to gain API Keys

I am facing the same problem! “Not a valid URL format” shows up each time when trying to register an app. Any solutions yet?

Update:

Okay, I just figured out that the problem refers to the Website URL and not to the Callback URL. This not really intuitive since the description also allows a placeholder.

If anybody faces the same problem just give a valid url like http://somthing.com as Website URL.

I have just found that the ‘not a valid url’ message was actually referring to the web address for the application and that it wasn’t a problem with the callback url all along. Hope that is helpful to someone.

Where do I change the callback url, by the way? I am having to create a new application each time I want to change it at the moment.

In .Net using Linq2Twitter, I realised that my code was automatically setting my code to localhost just by calling the current request - I had to change it in code to match the callback that I set in my application.

At both website and callback url, make sure you enter http://www. I have just put in my website homepage there

nobody said it would be easy i guess. We’re going to enter our site url as both the ‘website’ and the ‘callback url’. Fingers crossed.

make sure to put http:// or https:// before your www url address for both the web site and the call back url. it should work

Filly qualified address includes the http:// or https://
