We have a developer account at our research institute and would like to upgrade the account to a premium developer account to have access to tweets published years ago. When using the form on the developer dashboard, I can only see the possibility to pay for the account by credit card.

This is highly inconvenient as we are a research institute at a uiniversity and don’t have the possibility to pay by credit card. Also, we would like to spend the money (USD 2688.-, 12 Months with a limit of 250 requests (224.- each)) in one go to keep it in the accounting year of 2020.

Is it possible to pay for the account by invoice?

yeah annoyingly they don’t offer yearly payments or give invoices. This is a real problem for university accounts and research expenses. cc @suhemparack

One roundabout way that you could maybe get it to work is buying a prepaid cash card that you can pay for with an invoice, and then use that card to pay for twitter premium monthly. This is obviously something you have to clear with your own institution bursar / whoever does your expenses ahead of time, because this is generally a very dodgy thing to do with research money without approval (getting a prepaid cash card).

Your institution accounts people might be able to accommodate you somehow, i haven’t heard of twitter making any special arrangements for anyone for billing.

Thank you both for this feedback. I do not have an answer for you today, but this is heard and understood and @suhemparack and I will take this to our product team as we continue to invest on better ways to support researchers. I don’t expect to be able to “wave a magic wand” and change things fast here, but also please understand that this is a holiday weekend in the US, so the feedback will take a few days to be delivered.

@IkmzResearch are you looking to upgrade to premium for a specific reason - 30-day or full-archive search? Again, I cannot get you direct access, but understanding what you would like to access can help us to advance the conversation internally. Thank you!

Thanks for this answer. I was fearing that it would come down to that.
We will then have to create a workaround at the university. I doubt that this is the first instance of such a problem for the bursar. There might be some established way to deal with these payments.

But an invoice option for accounts would be highly appreciated!

We have an array of 5-6 projects at the moment that already use their own standard developer accounts to do some research on current twitter communication and need access to the full archive to get data on reference time periods some months back or to retract the beginnings and dynamics of a debate. Because several researchers require access to the same thing at the same time, we started a common developer account where we could handle all requests in an orderly and safe manner and give evereyone the aggregated data they need to finish their projects.

And since we successfully applied for some funding, we would like to spend this funding now. By now, I mean in December.

Thank you and I understand. Again, I cannot fix this myself and we cannot fix this immediately, but I hear what you are asking, and I will ensure that our product management team hear you, too.

Thanks for using our platform and API - this really is appreciated.
