I noticed 1,000s of fake accounts tonight–All tweeting the same message. Each account had 100 followers and only three (3) tweets. Is there an API to search and report these Fake Accounts… It is impossible for one person, or a hundred to report all of these fake accounts.
How do you define a “fake” account?
Accounts set up in mass by hackers, or other organizations, to be sold and resold to organizations who utilize them to manipulated twitter feed content. These organizations also sell “followers” to people on twitter. These accounts do not represent real people but are controlled by who ever has purchased them.
This is a list of fake accounts…
After an account is setup, how would you distinguish between a fake and a non-fake account?
You need some rules, such as, fake accounts are accounts that have the following properties:
I think you could easily come up with some fake account definition rules to your satisfaction, but it would be a waste of my time.
Technically, this is actually a case of serial account creation: a violation of the TOS.
Serial Accounts: You may not create multiple accounts for disruptive or abusive purposes, or with overlapping use cases. Mass account creation may result in suspension of all related accounts. Please note that any violation of the Twitter Rules is cause for permanent suspension of all accounts.
And Spam violation per twitters TOS.
If you have followed and/or unfollowed large amounts of users in a short time period, particularly by automated means (aggressive following or follower churn);
If you post duplicate content over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account;
And I am sure these accounts and the organization behind them are also involved in Selling & Purchasing followers;
I suggest you message Twitter #Support for further help understanding this… Now What I would like to know: is there a way to mass report such serial accounts that are in flagrant violation of these rules.
