Account Activity Feature Request - Detect user's locale in direct messages to localize responses and welcome messages

It would be extremely helpful if in the direct_message account activity webhook API if there was a way to detect a user’s locale, so that the automated DM experience could automatically respond to the user in their preferred default locale language.

It would also be necessary to have Welcome messages specify multiple responses per locale so that users when seeing the welcome message would see it in their default locale.

Much the same way the FB Messenger exposes a limited user profile to allow retrieval of user’s locale and also allows setting the persistent menu button text to be localized by user’s locale.

I have written into our product team about the request for a lang attribute being added to the Account Activity API events. More to come on this.

We do include a location attribute in our DM activity user objects that you could use in this situation.

@LeBraat thanks for the update, it’d be great to have a users language as a property, as location doesn’t always correspond to a users locale.

Is there any possibility that localization will be supported by welcome messages, e.g. supporting multiple default welcome message rules. Welcome messages are static so itd have to be supported in the api as theres no event to respond to, to customize it for the user.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I have passed this along and believe that our product team has a good understanding of this use case. We don’t have anything on our roadmap at the moment, but I will make sure to update this post once I have a material update on the matter.
